Background

I met Matt French of Retina Digital at a networking event in June 2024, and he found me afterwards and explained that he needed a copywriter, and wanted to work with me. His service is very technical, and he struggles to articulate what he does in lay-person’s terms, which is obviously the kind of description he needs on his website. He is also busy, and tight on time.

Process

We had an extended meeting over coffee and cake, where he explained what he does, and how he wanted the website to sound, and I asked about who his ideal clients were. Matt is his own web developer, which made it a simple process, with just me + client.

I developed an initial set of content for the different pages of the Retina Digital site, checking after the first page that I was on the right lines, and tidying up a few queries.

After the initial content was finalised, we also began a series of conversations around case studies. Matt had realised that the clearest way to explain what he does was to use a series of case studies, and I encouraged him to choose clients representing a wide cross-section of price points, business types and ways of working.

Results

The Retina Digital website went live with my content in September 2024, and at present there are 7 case studies waiting to be loaded onto the site, in addition. Matt is working with a graphic designer to create paper versions, in order to share them at trade shows.

Matt is delighted with the website, especially the case studies, and has recommended my services to a mutual connection, to write case studies for him as well.
