Background
This client, Anna is the mother of a good friend, and came to me to proofread her second novel, before she’d finished writing it. We’d met up for coffee, together with my friend, and Anna was delighted to discover that this is a service I offer. We discussed my rates, and timescales, and she was happy to proceed, although it took her longer than expected to complete the text.
Process
On receipt of the text, I began proofreading, looking at punctuation, spellings, repetition, lack of clarity, and other ‘speedbumps’ for the reader. There were a number of places where I checked the precise spelling of place names, shops, record titles, etc, and several places where I left notes for Anna, or emailed her, asking for clarification of a detail within the text.
We worked together on this for around a month, tying up loose ends in the references section, and ensuring all the details were as Anna required them.
Result
At the close of the project, Anna sent me a charming basket of flowers, with a note that read “Thank you so much for your comprehensive, detailed and thorough edit! I am delighted!”
The book was published in September 2023, and has been well received, with 5* reviews on Amazon.
